Latino Voter Mobilization Summit
2008 Presidential Elections

This “alert” is being directed to all Mexicano/Latino leaders, activists, organizations, coalitions, and politicians so that you may “Mark it on your calendars” that on Saturday, June 28 a statewide “Latino Leadership Summit” will be held from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Villaseñor Library in the city of San Bernardino on the corner of 5th and Mount Vernon.

The purpose of the Summit is to draft a strategic plan of action for initiating a grassroots-based “Latino Voter Mobilization” in California for the upcoming 2008 Presidential November elections in support of Democrat presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama.

The Summit’s agenda will also address the Latino Congreso scheduled for July in Los Angeles, and the proposed nationwide Latino mobilization for the Democratic Party Convention in Denver in late August.

As of last week, with Obama winning the nomination and Senator Clinton officially ending her campaign and joining in a unified Democratic Party effort, the call for a statewide leadership summit to launch a grassroots Mexicano/Latino voter mobilization is imperative and cannot wait.

Now more than ever, the Latino vote is pivotal for it can be the “Swing Vote” that yields a Democrat presidential and congressional victory; thus gaining stronger control and larger majorities in both the House and Senate.

As a Latino community for us to press forward on immigration reform in 2009 as well as deal with a number of other pressing issues, such as the economy and gas crisis, we need to meet, develop a plan, and act from a position of power.

Between today and June 28, a number of communiqués will be forwarded to you on the particulars of the leadership summit’s agenda.
